Trump campaign disavows newly formed Patriot Party

Summary List PlacementDonald Trump s 2020 presidential campaign committee disavowed any association with a newly formed Patriot Party. The Trump campaign did not authorize this committee and has not entered into any joint fundraising agreement to fundraise through Patriot Party, and has no knowledge of Patriot Party s activities whatsoever, the Donald J. Trump for President committee wrote Monday in a letter to the Federal Election Commission. To be clear: DJTFP has no affiliation with Patriot Party, which is not authorized by Mr. Trump or DJTFP. The Patriot Party submitted incorporation paperwork to the FEC on Friday, according to agency records, and was formed by Michael Joseph Gaul of Grovetown, Georgia. In a signed statement to the FEC, the Patriot Party stated that it collects contributions, pays fundraising expenses and disburses net proceeds for Trump s official campaign committee.   Organizers of Patriot Party could not immediately be reached for comment, although its Twitter account features a smiling, nodding GIF of Trump under the statement: The best President we ll see in our lifetime. Have you still got his back? The Trump campaign further told the FEC: DJTFP is placing this disavowal notice on the public record out of concern for confusion among the public, which may be misled to believe that Patriot Party s activities have been authorized by Mr. Trump or DJTFP — or that contributions to this unauthorized committee are being made to DJTFP — when that is not true. Since losing the presidency to Democrat Joe Biden, Trump has considered breaking from the Republican Party and forming his own party — potentially named the Patriot Party, the Wall Street Journal this month reported. Trump has also considered running for president again in 2024. But Trump is facing a Senate impeachment trial. If convicted on one count of inciting insurrection, the Senate could choose to forever bar Trump from again running for federal office. Almost anyone can file paperwork with the FEC the creates a new political committee or even political party, and several people have created committees incorporating Patriot Party in their names, including the Patriot Party Trump s campaign is disavowing. Earlier this month, a man in Missouri filed paperwork with the FEC forming a separate committee called The Patriot Party.
