Rioja is closer in style to Champagne than Burgundy. This statement might surprise you. But what we re looking at here, according to Victor Charcan of Bodegas Roda, who held a tasting upstairs in Dublin wine shop Corkscrew a few months ago, is about how it is made. In Burgundy, both the red and white wines are made from single grape varieties - so Pinot Noir for the red, and for the white it s predominantly Chardonnay. And the emphasis is on site, the vineyard where the grapes are grown.
